Cranny

From Travian

Cranny

A Cranny hides resources, preventing them from being taken by a raider.

It is advisable to build a Cranny before your Newbie protection ends, upgrading it to cover the resources you normally hold, particularly overnight accumulation.

If a player upgrades the village's Cranny to level 10, they can then build additional Crannies in that village. There is no limit in building second or third cranny.

[edit] Bonuses

Romans None
Teutons When raiding, the cranny of raided village can only hide 2/3 of the resources it would normally hide ( 4/5 with the new 3.5 server )
Gauls Hide twice as many resources in their crannies

[edit] How big should your Cranny be?

The size of Cranny required for protection of resources during a raid depends on the style of play with resource collecting players making few visits needing more protection than players who would spend resources without making large accumulations.

When a Teuton attacks, they get a 33% raiding bonus which means the amount of Resources protected by your Cranny is reduced by 33%. (This bonus has been reduced to 20% on new 3.5 servers). If your cranny holds 1000 of each resource, your cranny will only protect 667 units of each resource (2/3 of the total capacity), and a Teuton may plunder up to 333 units. So, if you want to be secure, upgrade your cranny so that if a Teuton attacks, they won't get any of your resources. This is assuming your cranny is full, of course. If you have the same cranny as used in the example above, and you have 500 of each resources, a Teuton can't touch it. The calculation for Teuton raids on villages with multiple crannies is based on the total resources hidden by all the crannies (not each cranny individually).

If the storage buildings, Warehouse or Granary are needed, further upgrades to the Cranny may be required to retain adequate resource protection. It may be better to spend resources on other buildings and units than concentrate on passive hoarding.

Gauls get twice as much space per Cranny than the others (eg. 1000 per lv 10 cranny for Romans/Teutons, 2000 per lv 10 Gaul cranny)

At higher levels of development, it becomes impractical to Cranny the entire quantity of resources required for a building level. Eventually, it may be necessary to demolish a Cranny in order to make way for other buildings. The Cranny is essential in earlier stages to reduce losses to small raids when there is little defense, but loses value in the later stages.

After you have one level ten Cranny, you can then build as many more as you want.
