Marketplace

The Marketplace is the building where you trade with other players or move resources around your villages.

The marketplace has 4 options:

  • Send resources: mainly to be used if you want to send someone a gift, or if you know the person you trade with and trust him/her, or if you want to send between your own villages; and this screen is the default screen that shows what merchants are moving to and from your village. Resources may be sent to a village without a marketplace, but the recipient is unable to track the merchants progress.
  • Buy: shows a list of what resources other players offer for sale and how long each load will take to reach you
  • Offer: you can offer something for sale, by indicating what and how much you offer for sale and what and how much you expect in return. For other players, this will show up in their "buy" list unless they are prevented by one or both of the options you have selected - "Own alliance only" and the maximum delivery time.
  • NPC trading - for a fee, you can do an internal 1:1 swap of your own resources. The NPC merchant is available for trading with 50 resources or above. At the start you get 35 gold tokens but they run out and can be extended only by paying real money or by referring new players.

Raising the level of your market increases the number of traders at your disposal. The first one costs 4 resources per hour; the next few cost only 2 each.

[edit] Tribe advantages

  • Gauls: a merchant can carry 750 units of resources 24 fields/hour.
  • Romans: a merchant can carry 500 units of resources 16 fields/hour.
  • Teutons: a merchant can carry 1000 units of resources 12 fields/hour.

[edit] Playing notes

  • When making an offer, the resources you are trying to sell are moved from the warehouse and/or granary into the marketplace. The merchants required to transport those goods become unavailable until the offer is accepted and carried out, or canceled.
    • The market offers extra storage above your warehouse / granary; you can temporarily store extra goods in your market if your warehouse or granary is nearly full.
    • Resources stored on offer in the market can be raided by other players.
  • Resources may be offered at ratios from 1:2 to 2:1, you can ask from half, up to double, the amount you are offering - with the exception that trades intended for accounts with same PC or sitter connections must be made at 1:1.
    • Exchange rate: In the early game, Crop is the lowest valued resource, often with a considerable market surplus, so crop trades 2:1 for most other resources. Other offers demanding 2:1 are likely to be left on the shelf. In the late game, crop is in much higher demand.
  • When an offer is accepted, merchants from both sides will start to transport the goods. The speed of the merchants is different for the three tribes: Roman traders move 16 sq/hr, Gaul traders 24 sq/hr, and Teuton traders 12 sq/hr. Thus in a trade between a Teuton and a Gaul, the Gaul will receive his goods delivered by the Teuton trader at the same time as his own traders have delivered their load and are arriving back home.

Most players will be looking at several things when choosing a trade:

  • Obtaining a resource they are short of, by exchanging one they have a surplus of.
  • An amount they need, or an amount they can trade, and if the number of merchants available is a problem, best fit to merchant capacity.
  • The exchange rate
  • Friend or Foe?
  • Distance
