Resource

Contents

[edit] Summary

Travian uses four basic resources (in addition to time) as a means to measure out game play. Travian uses the relative value and production of wood, clay, iron, and crop to determine the costs of production and upgrading of buildings and military forces. In addition, resources are used as medium of exchange in the Marketplace.

Your total stock of each resource is shown at the top of every page (each one followed by a slash and the capacity of your granary - for crop - or your warehouse - for the others). The "village overview" icon leads you to the screen where your total hourly production is tabled.

The production figure for crop is a net figure, derived from the gross production (shown at top right) minus the cost of feeding any troops you are looking after, minus the cost of feeding the members of the population who are maintaining various village improvements; it can be negative: see the crop usage page for more detail.

[edit] Resource Acquisition

There are six ways to acquire resources in Travian:

  • Production by way of "fields" in villages
  • Production increases from specific buildings (i.e Sawmill, Brickyard, Iron Foundry, Grain Mill and Bakery)
  • Production increases from Oases
  • Acquisition by way of trade in marketplaces
    • Trade with other Villages
    • Trade with the Non-player Character (NPC)
  • Acquisition by way of reinforcement from other villages
  • Acquisition by way of raiding from enemy villages

[edit] Production within a Village

Every village starts with 750 units of each resource, and 18 "fields." Each field begins at Level 0 and produces two units of its respective resource per hour.

Upgrading these fields allows them to generate more of their respective resources per hour. All resource areas can be upgraded to level 10. In your capital they can be extended further: to level 12 on Travian2 and indefinitely on Travian3. Extending a particular resource field requires some of that resource and a larger amount of every other resource; so if you are short of resources you will find that the most likely one you can extend is the one with the smallest stock. See Resource:Types of Resources below for more information.

Resource production can also be increased with specific buildings: the sawmill, brickyard, iron foundry, grain mill, and bakery. Each upgrade of each adds 5% to the basic production of the applicable resource areas within the village where they are built, with a maximum of 25%.

[edit] Trade

Resources can be traded from one village to another with merchants from your marketplace. The ratio of exchange is set by the selling player.

In addition, one can trade, at a gold cost, with the NPC merchant in the marketplace at a 1:1 ratio.

[edit] Reinforcement

Resources can be sent from one village to another with merchants from your marketplace.

[edit] Raiding Enemy Villages

Using specific military units, one village may raid another, non-allied village, for resources. Assuming a successful raid, these units will bring back available resources based on specific conditions. See Bounty for more information.

[edit] Types of Resources

[edit] Wood

The primary method for wood production is from a Woodcutter field and is used primarily in the construction in buildings, though military units and upgrades also cost wood.

[edit] Clay

Clay is probably the most needed resource. It is the main resource used in buildings and resource fields, also needed for building gallic troops.

It is worth a great deal in the marketplace, with an average conversion ratio of 3:2.

[edit] Iron

Iron is mainly used for the Romans to recruit troops. In the marketplace it is worth about 1:1.

[edit] Crop

Crop (sometimes translated as "wheat") is needed to feed your army and workers; it is also used as a resource for building buildings and upgrading fields. It's recommended to have the crop consumption, or crop usage, not exceed the population limit as it will result in Negative crop; only a Granary, Main Building, and Cropland can be upgraded in such cases.

You can normally manage with lower net crop production than other resources, but would still need to keep some reserve and continue to upgrade crop production as usage increases, or you may find that the crop resource is a limiting factor.

Crop on the marketplace varies typically from 1:1 to 2:1 for other resources, until late game, because crop is cheap and plentiful.

See also crop usage.

Upgrades are quicker with a higher level Main Building. Times for Main Building levels are shown in the table below.
